Introducing the beautiful Saola! (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis.)

Due to its long horns and exceptional rarity, it is nicknamed the ‘Asian unicorn’.

The first photograph of a living saola was captured in captivity in 1993.

History:

The Saola, also known as Pseudoryx nghetinhensis, is a 200-pound mammal unknown to science until 1992.

A team of scientists discovered a skull with unusual horns in the home of a hunter in a remote village in Vietnam. This discovery marked the first large mammal to be identified by science in over 50 years and is considered a significant find.

Habitat:

This elusive mammal exclusively inhabits the dense forests of the Annamite Mountain range, which stretches between Vietnam and Laos. It particularly favors wet evergreen or deciduous forests close to rivers and valleys.
