Picture walking into a boardroom full of busy professionals, interrupting their meeting, and saying, "I hate my job here, I may quit, but I probably won't. Who knows. But you suck!"

Not many people would consider doing this. No matter how much they hated their job or their working conditions.

Yet, every day this is what people seem to do on Medium.

Welcome to the new trend of 'noisy quitting.'

Shh…

This year there has been a trend known as 'quiet quitting.'

It gained popularity thanks to a viral Tik Tok video. The narrator of the video explains the concept.

You’re not outright quitting your job, but you’re quitting the idea of going above and beyond. You’re still performing your duties, but you’re no longer subscribing to the hustle culture mentality that work has to be your life. The reality is it’s not. And your worth as a person is not defined by your labor.”

The COVID pandemic forced many people to reassess their work/life balance and focus on their mental health. The priority was happiness over how many hours they could log in their workplace.
