Many of us move through life drawing strict lines, seeing things as either this way or that, liberal or conservative, rich or poor, black or white. But what if we could look beyond these limiting labels and see the world with greater depth and freedom? There is a way. Read on to loose these rigid boundaries, allowing you to see life more clearly.

Clear or blurred

Many people think life exists in absolutes. But what if we were more open-minded? As Royce White points out, “Life is not ‘either or,’ it’s ‘both and’.” The truth is the sharp contrasts we impose on many things don’t exist.

Imagine seeing the world through new eyes, where nothing is exclusively one way or another. Adopting such a perspective can ease frustrations caused by these limitations, seeing the world in more nuanced shades instead of only black or white.

By opening up to the concept of “this AND that,” known as the “both/and mindset,” rather than “this OR that,” known as the “either/or mindset,” invites you to a fuller understanding of life. When you realize that most things aren’t just one way or another, everything looks different.
