The Power Of Gratitude: Transforming Your Life With Appreciation
“Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other.”
- Randy Pausch
The above quote by Randy Pausch describes the qualities of gratitude, which states gratitude is the simplest thing humans can do for each other, but it is the most powerful thing humans can do for each other.
In this world full of people who show their attitude mostly in a wrong way, people should learn to show gratitude to each other to make this world peaceful and harmonious.
In this busy and fast-paced world, we live in, we often forget to acknowledge the positive aspects of life, we fail to acknowledge people who have been nice to us and done something for us.
Imagine you are an employee in some company, you have given your full efforts to do the task assigned to you by your boss, and after giving all your time and talent, your boss accepts your work but without any words of appreciation, not even a smile on his face. Question yourself how will you feel at that particular moment? Worthless I would have felt, there would be demotivation rushing through my veins and think what if you can do nothing about it, you will have one or two sorrowful days and you will forget how much effort you had made to complete that task.
The Power Of Perspective.
Gratitude is more than saying thank you or feeling momentarily appreciative, it’s a mindset a way of approaching life with a sense of wonder.
In the beautiful life given by God, we must appreciate everything, every person, every place, every moment, every situation, and our own life. We must take some time and appreciate things like that.
We must develop this quality in ourselves which will help our mind to focus on positive things. We all know how our mind tends to focus on negative things instantly, whether it is from our surroundings or any person, but all we do is focus on the negative aspects around us.
By developing this quality we can have a new perspective to look at the world around us, which can be as beautiful as heaven if we see its positive side and it can be as bad as hell if we tend to focus on its negative side.
One of the powerful aspects of gratitude is that it can change our perspective, instead of focusing on what the world lacks or lack of qualities in any person or yourself, gratitude helps us to see positive aspects around us.
This shift in perspective can have a profound impact on our mental health and it can also help to reduce the stress that arises from the feeling of being worthless or marking the lacking point of this world and other people.
It can also help to reduce anxiety and increase the feeling of happiness and fulfilment.
Strengthening Relationship Through Gratitude
The example of the employee I gave above, you must have imagined yourself as that employee, now after you did not get the appreciation you deserved would you give the same efforts to your work? Will you have the same relationship with your boss after not getting appreciation from him?
Of course, the answer is no, you will not put the same effort into your work and you will not respect your boss as you used to do, you will act in front of him like you are respecting it but deep inside he has lost all his respect and greatness inside you.
Now think what if the boss appreciated the efforts of that employee or (if you have imagined yourself in it then) you?
You will increase your respect for your boss, you will create a special bond with your boss and give your 100% effort in your upcoming work or project.
The power of appreciation and gratitude works in your day-to-day life, if you appreciate every single thing someone has done for you, then you will create a special bond with them.
If you want to win people then, appreciate them.
Showing your gratitude towards them will create a positive image in the other person’s head, he will show the same respect while talking to you.
It’s a circle where you show gratitude to people and people will show gratitude to you.
But if you show unwanted attitude and hatred towards people then they will do the same.
It’s up to you what you want to show the people you contact in day-to-day life.
Take an example, if a teacher appreciates little things about his students then his students will never speak badly about him ever and they will have a healthy relationship where students will be more likely to obey the teacher, appreciation works like positive reinforcement, more you give, more good response you see.
But think if teacher always scold their students then will students obey them? Yes, they will have to obey them but the respect of the teacher will be lost from their head, they will speak badly about the teacher and the relationship will get worse.
That’s the point show gratitude and take gratitude.
Gratitude is the only way to stop unwanted hate spread by people nowadays mostly in social media (we will discuss it in later articles), showing gratitude can build healthy relationships, it can strengthen your interpersonal relationships and give you respect and others who are in contact.
The Physical Benefits of Gratitude
Furthermore practising gratitude can have a great impact on our physical health, it improves our physical health.
People who regularly Practice gratitude have improved their intestines, stress can be reduced, it also reduces heart disease, it can also reduce anxiety.
By improving all those things, people can save themselves from the negative impact caused by it.
Therefore practicing gratitude can be beneficial for physical health.
Cultivating a Practice of Gratitude
It starts with a simple shift of mindset, instead of focusing on faults from the world and people around you, start focusing on the positive side of them, every person has their positive side, though sometimes there are people whose positive sides are overshadowed by negative but it is unlikely that there are none with positive side.
You can learn from every person on the earth, even from the animals all you need to do is to change your perspective.
Once you change your perspective and apply gratitude in your daily life, you will truly acknowledge the beauty of this world and the people around you.
Gratitude is a powerful quality that helps you discover positive aspects around the people with whom you live and around your surroundings.
Having the quality of gratitude you are less likely to attract negative energy and your life will be without any sorrows.
It can help you to learn things from everyone and you will produce strong positive energy which is enough to change your perspective on different people’s life. Also, it helps to create a special bond with people around you.
It is the quality everyone must possess because without gratitude there is no difference between humans and animals.
