The Press’ Failure of Young Women
Millie Bobby Brown is the latest young star to be bullied by the press
The mainstream media loves nothing more than to tease and bully young female stars over their appearance. And when they are called out, many of the journalists go into hiding or try to pretend that they are covering a news story and therefore should not be questioned about the content of their pieces.
Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown is the latest victim of this. As she was promoting her new movie, Electric State, some members of the press began making cruel comments about her appearance.
The Daily Mail ran a piece called “Why Are Gen Zers Ageing so Badly?” and they used the actress to attempt to prove their point. Likewise, British comedian Matt Lucas commented on Brown’s appearance.
He claimed that Brown looked like one of his infamous characters from Little Britain, Vicky Pollard. Lucas says that he only wanted to point out that the outfit the actress wore was similar to his character, but others don’t buy it.
Brown wrote in an Instagram post: “This isn’t journalism. This is bullying. The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing…”
