I don’t know about you, but I’m a victim of the “constant connectedness syndrome.” I’m always on email, Facebook, Bluesky, and Instagram.

No, I’m not a teenager. Or even a 20-something. I’m an adult. And I’m a writer and a news junkie.

No excuse. The world will continue to spin if I don’t check my applications for even five minutes. So, why do I need to feel I have to check in every minute of every day?

Even more so, I think about the effect on kids who grew up with cell phones and social media. They never knew anything different. At least I have a personal history that goes back before all this technology.

So the big question is, how does all this connectedness affect our brain, personality, and personal relationships? What happens if you are cut off even for a day?

The ubiquitous nature of smartphones, social media, and instant messaging has fundamentally changed how we experience daily life. I did some deep research and will share what some of the leading psychologists say about this phenomenon. Here are some key psychological effects worth exploring:
