Why ‘almost relationships’ drive you to obsessionally keep trying (and how to see them or what they are and let them go)
What is an almost relationship?
An ‘almost relationship’ may not be a term taken from the Oxford English dictionary, but it is a great way of describing all of those relationships that lack one or many of the vital ingredients that make for one.
The most common variant of an almost relationship is probably the type that triggers plenty of emotion and sexual energy- but somehow still never comes off the ground. A bit like an aeroplane with turbines on full blast that instead of taking off, keeps taxiing around the airport. Not only does it not reach its destination, it does not even begin its journey towards it!
Affairs and other dynamics where one or both people lack in commitment are other examples of relationships that may fill certain functions but rarely tick all the boxes for a ‘real’ relationship.
