The Real Reason Why Companies Don’t Want 3D Printing To Succeed
3D printing has rapidly evolved over the past few decades and when it was almost ready to start changing the world, it came to a sudden halt about 10 years ago.
First, I need to disclaim that I still believe 3D printing is the future. The focus will be given to today’s main areas of applicability of the technology, why it failed in every one of them and where it will succeed.
#1. Manufacturing
3D printing wanted to transform the manufacturing industry by making it possible to produce complex parts with greater efficiency and accuracy.
Traditional manufacturing methods such as injection and casting are often expensive and require a lot of time and resources to produce complex parts. 3D printing, on the other hand, represented the opportunity to adapt the production to a new product.
Why it failed
- The tech never got so cheap that could be implemented everywhere.
- Unions also aren’t the greatest help. This would represent what machines in the Industrial Revolution represented to the workers and their…
