Imagine spending years preparing to legally move from your homeland to another country only to discover upon entry that there’s no record of any visa application in the system. That’s basically what happened to my husband and I just a short while ago when we arrived in Canada with five large suitcases in tow.

Fortunately my years spent becoming a dual citizen of the United States and Canada so as to obtain permanent residence status, afforded some leverage. My husband was extended a six month visitor’s visa and the customs officer at the airport rendered some useful advice with how to proceed with family sponsorship, should we discover that the person we hired to assist us with this ambitious endeavor was indeed a charlatan.

Unfortunately when questioned, the bizarre lies nonchalantly and unrepentantly spewed out by our immigration consultant prompted us to heed the recommendations received at the airport. Hence we verified with CICC that the person we hired was undeniably a fraud. At that point we proceeded with taking matters into our own hands.
