The strands of life — how life can be viewed as the many strands that make up a piece of rope

Life is complex and made of near-infinite strands and cords that all intertwine and are not too dissimilar from a length of rope or a piece of string.

I first realised this when sitting in a Church at a wedding I attended earlier in the year. Now, I was expecting the theme of the service to revolve around the usual subjects that most weddings happen to follow, such as love, devotion, family, togetherness, etc. I am sure those of you who have been to a few weddings can almost predict the rough order of service and could practically write the vicar’s sermon without too much thought.

I wasn’t expecting to be caught off guard entirely and for one of my writings to be inspired by what I heard in Church that day. As I sat in my pew, I unexpectedly found myself reaching for my phone to discretely write the working title of this blog entry (The Strands of Life) into the Grammarly App on my phone.

As I feared this idea would be forgotten, I had to grab it whilst it was still fresh in my mind. Given that it was a wedding and over the course of the festivities, the idea would have likely escaped into the endless ether.

It all started with the first reading from the Bible, which was Ecclesiastes chapter 4, verses 9–12:
