The Thing About Progress That 99% Of People Get Wrong

--

Rarely the progress is visible all the time. Image by author.

People often think that being super busy and working all the time is a good thing.

But, there’s a better way to look at work. It’s not about doing more and more; it’s about doing the important things well and being happy with what you achieve.

The Rollercoaster Ride of Progress

Imagine progress as a rollercoaster ride rather than a serene uphill climb. There are thrilling highs, daunting lows, and sometimes long stretches of flat track where nothing seems to happen.

It’s tempting to believe that during these flat or downward phases, we’re not making any progress. But, as any seasoned rollercoaster rider knows, each segment of the ride contributes to the overall experience. The lows make the highs more exhilarating; the flat tracks build anticipation for what’s to come.

Sometime you just need to wait for the progress to happen. Image by author.

The real challenge, and indeed the struggle, is to weather the hard times with grace and resilience, to stay the course even when the horizon seems unchanged.
