The Tragedy of Bucky Barnes
A look at the life of James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes as told in the Filmverse
From Brooklyn to Russia, Barnes's life story is quite the tragedy. Of course, it hadn’t always started that way. In Captain America, Bucky was (and still is) the childhood friend of Steve Rogers. Steve had always wanted to join the war, to fight for peace. But throughout all the tests that Steve had to go through he has always been denied.
Bucky on the other hand kept going to fight. When Rogers was finally given the serum, the chance to fight for the war, he was made into a symbol for the people. He made videos of him fighting instead of actual fighting. He never fought it, until the day that he found out Bucky was missing in action.
Sergeant Barnes vs The Winter Soldier
The first time we see Sergeant Barnes on the screen he is in full uniform and is shown as a skillful soldier. On his last day before he was being shipped off to the 107th, he spent with his friend Steve on a double date to the World Expo. Bucky has always been there for Steve, from the times of the playground, to when his parents had died. In Captain America: The First Avenger, after Bucky is declared dead Steve Rogers tells Peggy,
“Even when I had nothing I had…
