Into a Banana Republic
A while back I wrote about the Savannah Banana’s Baseball Team. This is different. They’re funny. They are about the only thing in America that is funny. “Banana Land” currently is in Savannah, GA. For now. In a few days, the United States may be known as “Banana Land”.
What is a banana republic? Following is a definition I came across a while back and it fits quite well.
Over the past century, “banana republic” has evolved to mean any country (with or without bananas) that has a ruthless, corrupt, or just plain loopy leader who relies on the military and destroys state institutions in an egomaniacal quest for prolonged power.
Does this ring any bells? Do you think of someone and his followers after reading this definition? Yeah. I thought so. And this is the train we as a country are on, the fast train to Banana Land. This a trip bought and paid for by the Republican Party. Check out some of the VIPs hanging in the bar car on this carzy train.
We have a “TV Doctor Oz”, a griftor who has spent his life peddling quack medical ideas on morning television talk shows. He lives in NJ, not PA. A couple of weeks ago 170 real doctors came out against him for his quack medical advice. Oprah is not pleased either. She pushed his quackery for years.
