i have an idea that is too big for me
its cruel and exceedingly vast
we know there’s a void between people
not simply empty air
or distance
but a void,
implacable, unending

what use is there in your anger or rage?
it sears your veins and your eyes
consuming you
and though you wish to release it
a spear of shimmering air
it withers away in the void between people
its target will never feel it.

What about sorrow?
the void is uncaring
your tears will fall endlessly,
with no mark, splash or puddle in its depths
the cold that you wish would emanate out
so as to form frost on the walls and windows
and chill those who do not feel it
disappears into the nothingness between souls
unremembered and lost

And what of love?
a warming beautiful golden light
that fills its vessel to brimming
spilling over and warming the world in its abundance
yes the void will not recognize it
for to do so would would require emotions or thought
and the void is empty.

Such warmth that the world should rightly embrace
that should make the sun shine more brightly
and song to carry with every whispered world
ends at the walls of your being
no tremor to pass or note to be heard

Should the void that lies between people
and keeps us all apart
be one day bridged, what will become of us?
will we grow stronger from feelings of others
or we will we turn to ash in the conflagration?
I dream of the colourless void
and wonder
