The Xolo dog
The Guardian of the night! Protector against evil spirits!
The Xolo is one of the most ancient dog breeds in the world, originally from Mexico. The skin is wrinkled & most Xolo dogs have no hair, but some are born with a coat of fur. There are three sizes; toy, miniature & standard.
The name Xoloitzcuintle or Xolo comes from the Nahuatl language spoken by around 1.5 million people, predominantly in Mexico. The name is from two words in the language of the Aztecs;
Xolotl means the god of lightning & death.
Itzcuintli means dog in the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs.
For Native Americans, the Xolo dogs were guardians of the night and underworld protectors against evil spirits.
They were companions of witches & wizards and guides of mortals during difficult times and across the land of the dead.
Xolo dogs are loyal pets, thriving best as pack animals. They act reserved with strangers and are not aggressive, bonding well with the family & other pets.
History:
These animals have been around for 3000 years, dating back to Aztec times in ancient Mexico.
