#1 Returning to Medium After a Break

Last week, I was returning to Medium after a break.

At first, it was a case of cold mental muscles.

I decided not to force them, but toast them into a prolific state.

They had to be coaxed by putting them in a conducive environment.

The whole of last week, I worked from coffee shops.

Indulging in people watching, having sips of cappuccino sprinkled with cinnamon, accompanied with cream cheese topped bagels.

Listening to the demands of my monkey mind whilst also writing in between breaks.

But my output did surprise me.

In the last seven to eight days, I have managed to submit 5–6 interesting and different stories in publications that I go to for reading work that has been submitted by fellow writers.

Yipee! Pat on the back.

I’m the gal that celebrates the small wins!

#2 — Coax not fight with the mind. Slowly it will begin to churn with ideas.

I gently coaxed my mind and build a rhythm and routine of writing by visiting the coffee shops.

Now my mind is churning story ideas even as I’m engaging in conversations with my mum on the phone.

I do not need to go to the coffee shop.

The words are pouring out of my fingers even if I have one hour gap between two important activities.

I’m able to fill blank sheets on my word document with soul stirring ideas in my PJs and tee.

It does feel pretty awesome.

I’m kicked and peaceful.

For me, progress is equivalent to happiness.

Overcoming my internal challenges is equivalent to increase in self-esteem.

#3 — Persistence Pays Off

Never ever should you force your mind to do something is what I’ve learnt.

Instead coax it into the activity by putting it in the ideal environment.

Muscle memory will work — the mind will draw inferences from the time it used to work in that place, and fall back into the groove.

When the rhythm of working becomes so powerful that them ideas are coming, you can go back to work from your place of greater convenience.

I’ve shifted back in my drawing room chair.

At that point the environment will not matter much.

The brakes in the writing zone of the mind that had got jammed have been released.

My car is in motion.

I am so easy now.
