KISS is an abbreviation for Keep It Simple, Silly!

I heard about KISS in one of the episodes of Man vs. Wild, where Bear Grylls tells his audience about the technique of KISS. Bear Grylls says KISS is a technique that one can use to survive in dangerous and wild scenarios. KISS says that we should always try to keep things as simple as possible. We should try to simplify complex scenarios and analyse how we can solve problems using simple techniques. This way, our chances of survival increase in any situation.

But what I think is that KISS will not only help you survive in the wild, but it can also help you survive in everything you do in your life. One such thing is writing. Let’s see how KISS will help you survive in the wild world of writing among all the apex predators of the writing world from Shakespeare to Stephen King.

Keep It Short

Trust me, no one is going to read your lengthy and hefty blogs unless you are another Shakespeare or you offer them something they really need. In this busy, fast-moving, and hectic world, people are way too busy these days. Felt bad? Sorry, but that’s the harsh reality. In fact, according to a survey, most people spend less than a minute on each blog they visit. Most readers just skim the content of your blog without going in deep. The blog that takes less than 7 minutes to read gets the most attention on Medium as well.

So you need to keep your articles as short and to the point as possible. Use a few words to explain your point. Keep it simple and short. Keep it “KISS”able!

Be Easy with Your Words

Don’t use hefty and humongous words in your articles just to look cool. Your vocabulary might be strong, but not everyone’s is. If readers find it difficult to understand words or scenes in your articles, they will throw your articles in the trash. Again, people don’t have time to take out a dictionary to search for the meaning of every word you write.

Don’t call it Brobdingnagian when you can call it huge or giant. Don’t try to be Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory. Just be you and keep your words simple. Keep your words “KISS”able.

Get straight to the point

People try to find meaning and knowledge in your articles. So it’s your job to explain the point of your article as easily as possible without making them fuzzy and perplexing. Don’t make them wander around your blog without knowing where they are going. Don’t bore them. Because again, they don’t have time for your Victorian-era style of writing with long descriptive scenes and thick words.

Only authors like Charles Dickens can get away with relating the flowing of wine to the spilling of blood to describe violence in his novel The Tale of Two Cities. You are not Charles Dickens to do so. People won’t give a damn if they cannot comprehend your articles. So keep your articles to the point. Keep your point “KISS” able.

Conclusion

Make people give a French kiss to your articles as if it’s their darling babe. Make your articles “KISS” able and flood them with an orgy of kisses from readers.
