This is the last year for the Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride. In 2005, Jim Miller, a Dakota Vietnam Veteran, had a heinous dream he found out was true. Ordered by President Lincoln, 38 Sioux warriors were hung in Mankato, Minnnesota on December 26, 1862. The 330-mile Dakota Wokiksuye Memorial Ride was first undertaken December 10–26, 2008, held at the same time each year since (sans 2 COVID years) in bitterly cold conditions with great sacrifice to the riders and horses. In memory of the ancestors, its mission is aimed toward healing and forgiveness. Recently, there was an announcement. Guided by prayers, leaders determined their purpose has been accepted, made visible, and the once secret travesty is now openly known.

The last ride will begin December 10 from Lower Brule, South Dakota, marking its end in Mankato when the riders arrive for ceremony at the hanging site.
