I wrote this in response to a job posting that required me to write an essay for my younger self. I have come back to it again and again. As graduation season is upon us, I am once again reminded of this love letter to my younger self.

Young and bright-eyed, I know you think graduation and the real world outside the confines of a tertiary institution is still far away. But faraway so easily become yesterday when the hands of the clock keep ticking continuously. So allow me to offer some unsolicited advice (you can thank me later).

‘develop good habits now’

It is harder to break out from bad habits than it is to form good ones, so start now to develop good habits. Whether it is exercising, eating right or just waking up early these habits would help you when you land that dream job of yours. Plus, it gives you a sense of fulfillment and a natural rhythm in life. Speaking about that dream job, never stop dreaming. Never doubt the worthiness of your dream. Work towards your dream, join organizations, develop useful skills, everything and anything that would take you one step closer. Of course, you have to do your research on what exactly you need. So do your research and get a mentor. A mentor is literally a shortcut to your path to success.
