Today, I Am Happy, Even Though I Was Once Dirt Poor
I was born into a lower-class family. I had to fight fiercely for more than twenty years to break out of the cycle of extreme poverty that I faced. It was difficult, painful, and nerve-wracking, but it taught me invaluable life lessons.
I can understand the anxiety of the moment that makes you restless with the thought that you could be homeless the next day. When I was a young child, we changed houses frequently because of financial issues. I saw my parents worried because there were times when they had no money to pay the rent.
I can recall those times when we feared that the landlord might throw our belongings on the road.
My father had to beg and request different landlords for more time to arrange the payments, asking for just one more week or just one more month.
I was the fearful child who listened to every conversation, hiding behind doors with the guilt of not being able to do anything.
My innocent mind never thought that I was not responsible and I was just a little child.
Throughout my childhood, I lived in confusion and with a lot of questions in my mind about the reason that caused the poor to become poorer every day and the rich to get richer day by day. I became sad over the discrimination in the world.
