It was still a Great Day

Eight months ago, I jotted down this topic and left it to gather dust in my drafts. That day, for reasons I can’t quite remember, I was feeling low — frustrated, sad, and weighed down by the events of the day. I ended the day feeling like a failure.

But today, as I revisit this topic with fresh eyes, I can’t help but agree with the girl who wrote this months ago: Today wasn’t your fault… It was still a great day.

No, I’m not an optimist in the conventional sense. It’s just that I’ve come to realize how often we allow external events to stir up negative emotions within us. We internalize these moments, letting them define our day, our mood, and sometimes even our self-worth. But here’s the truth: it’s not your fault.

  • It’s not your fault if your manager yelled at you. Unless you truly did something to deserve criticism (and even then, no one deserves to be yelled at), it’s not your fault they chose to express themselves that way.
  • It’s not your fault the country’s current state is causing stress. You don’t have control over national affairs, so there’s no point in beating yourself up over it.
  • It’s not your fault your spouse or partner acted like a jerk. You can’t control other people’s behaviour, only how you respond to it.

No, it’s not your fault!

We need to stop letting every little thing get to us. Stop allowing someone’s careless words or actions to ruin your day. It’s not your fault they think or behave in a certain way, so why let it tarnish what could still be a perfectly good day?

Life is full of moments that test our patience, resilience, and sense of self. It’s easy to absorb the negativity around us and let it define how we feel. But the reality is that much of what happens in a day is beyond our control. The way others treat us, the challenges that arise, and the unpredictable nature of life are not within our power to change. What we can control, however, is our response.

Instead of carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, choose to focus on the positives, no matter how small. Recognize that you did your best with what you had, and that’s all anyone can ask for. The power to reclaim your day lies within you. Don’t let a few dark clouds obscure the brightness of your spirit.

So the next time you face a frustrating situation, remember: it’s not your fault. Let it go, and embrace the good that the day still holds. Because at the end of it all, it was still a great day.
