Like anything in excess, exercise can also be bad for you.

Don’t get me wrong; exercise is one of the foundational ways to be healthy, but going overboard with the intensity has its ramifications especially if you don’t aspire to be a Professional.

If your primary goal is to just be healthy, it’s helpful to know how to get the most out of it without having to drag yourself to the gym more than you need to.

How it plays out

Exercise in low and moderate doses follows a U-shaped or Reverse-J curve which means in moderate doses it does wonders in terms of decreasing the risk of Heart disease but with an increase in intensity it becomes progressively harmful.

Extreme-intensity exercise regimes can lead to Heart diseases (Myocardial fibrosis and Coronary artery complications)

There is a way to find the right balance to get the maximum benefits while avoiding the harmful effects; it’s called the Goldilocks zone.

Goldilocks Zone

Here are a few things you can follow:

1. At least 150 mins of Low to moderate exercise or 75 mins of intensive exercise per week

2. Up to 5 hours of vigorous exercise is found to be optimal (No limit for low-intensity exercise)

3. Should take at least one day off per week to enhance the recovery process

For most people like me, the point of exercising is to stay healthy.

Therefore it’s of great help to know how much time one should spend exercising to get the desired benefit without overdoing it.
