The crisp mountain air, the breathtaking views, and the spiritual significance — a trip to Kalinchowk is an experience that stays with you long after you return. I recently had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place with me and my 6 friends ( Suru, Chirag, Asim, Nitesh, Binit, Bhupesh), and I wanted to share my experience with you all! It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog here so, bare with me.

We went to Kalinchowk in mid-March, and the weather was perfect — not too cold, with just a little bit of snow. As soon as we arrived, we couldn’t resist playing in the snow and building a tiny snowman. As dudes living in Kathmandu, of course, we have never seen snow, so we took full advantage of the opportunity that was presented in front of us.

Our main purpose for the trip was to visit the Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple, situated high up on a hill. The hike was challenging, especially with the altitude, but the stunning views kept us motivated. Reaching the temple and offering our prayers was a truly spiritual experience. We wished for many things, can’t tell you what I wished for… cuz it wouldn’t come true if I did!

On our way down, we stopped by the local shops, where I discovered my many new foods but among all those, my favorite was the yak cheese, soft durkha! It was unlike any cheese I’d ever tasted before, and the durkha was incredibly soft, it was my First time having it, and I highly recommend trying it if you ever get the chance.

One of the most unexpected experiences of the trip was catching two wild pigeons and then releasing them back into the air. It was a heartwarming moment that I’ll never forget.

The entire journey took us around four hours — three hours to reach the temple and one hour to descend. As the sun began to set, we captured a stunning time-lapse video from a nearby hilltop with two stupas. The view was truly mesmerizing, and the colors of the sunset were unlike anything I’d ever seen before.

After returning to our hotel, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and some fun games of UNO. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

But the adventures didn’t end there! My friend Bhupesh and I, fueled by a sense of wonder, woke up at 10 pm and braved the cold to try some night photography. The sky was ablaze with stars, and we were lucky enough to capture a shooting star streaking across the photo! It was an unforgettable moment in a night filled with both quiet darkness and the sparkling beauty of the cosmos.

If you’re looking for an adventure that combines stunning scenery, cultural immersion, and spiritual significance, then a trip to Kalinchowk is definitely for you. Just be prepared for the hike and the altitude!

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when planning your trip to Kalinchowk:

  • The best time to visit is during the winter months (December to February) when the skies are clear and the views are unobstructed. However, it is important to be prepared for cold weather and possible snowfall.
  • The hike to the temple is moderately challenging, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
  • There are a few hotels and lodges located near the temple, as well as basic amenities like restaurants and shops.
  • Be sure to respect the local culture and dress modestly when visiting the temple.

I hope this blog post has inspired you to plan your trip to Kalinchowk!
