A woodland path covered in leaves with trees overhanging and golden sunshine breaking through ahead.
Thank you Adrien Tutin for the image on Unsplash

I get to walk beside you, my friend
Your hand in mine is soft and warm
We’ll walk like this until the end
Until the dream is over and gone

The gentle openness of your mind
Your presence fills me with joy and grace
As we walk above the river and find
The intricate beauty of God’s own place

We’ll stand together in the peace
Of minds astonished, calm and filled
With the nameless opening of release
The magnitude that calms and stills

The rushing, calamitous paths of mind
That cast around for what they’ve lost
That tread their own deceit in time
That whittle their bones in the muted frost

That cannot feel the peace that lasts
That pours through every crack and hole
That has been bored right through the mask
Of pain atop the boundless soul

They’ll cry in gratitude sublime
With open arms and faces grow
With glory’s help up to the sunshine
Blessing all they’ve ever known

They get to walk beside you, my friend
Your hand in theirs is soft and warm
We’ll walk like this until the end
Until the dream is over and gone
