Here is something to read for those who take Omega-3 supplements for their benefits. Among the buzzwords related to this almost magical supplement, I recently encountered the benefits of Omega-3 for dry eyes. However, the debate over this natural remedy’s effectiveness for those fighting dry eyes has recently intensified.

The latest randomized South Korean trial by Dr. Joon Young Hyon, MD, PhD, tells a different story. The study, which came out of the Seoul National University College of Medicine, showed that supplementation with re-esterified triglyceride-3 ω-3 fatty acids failed to improve dry eye symptoms. The study specifically points to the type of dry eyes caused by a disease called “meibomian gland dysfunction.” These findings were a huge slap in the face for those who recommended Omega-3 for dry eyes.

Now, the findings have added fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding the popular therapy, raising questions about its effectiveness.
