On March 30, 1853, Vincent Van Gogh was born. If you had asked me before visiting a small exhibit at the Barberini Museum in Germany what I knew about this brilliant artist, I would have said, “Starry Night” and “self mutilation.” But that was before I appreciated that this complex man brought far more than his paintbrush to the world.
