ILLUMINATION

Void

There was once a time

As a child when I

crossed the road looking right into

my father’s eyes

Today when all of that’s left behind

I wonder whether I still have

him by my side to traverse through

the junction of my life.

There was once a time

when I dreaded the

wrath of monsters beneath my bed

but all that shredded aside

now I fear no one except for a man’s own pride.

There was once a time

when I wondered all-day

of what I wanted to become

when I grew up someday

and all of that just feels like yesterday

it’s true when they say that time flies away.

There was once a time

when I thought that

dreams were meant to be followed and

life was meant to be lived

but then down the roads of adversity

I realized that living life was a distant dream

of the past absurdity.

There was once a time

when I used to actually cry

after a wounded knee’s regime

now I just lie even through

my life’s downstream.

It’s strange how adulthood

slowly got the headline

of my life’s newspaper

cause there was once a time

when it just seemed like

an outlying skyline.
