We Students Love Our Teachers, Especially Now
“Beep! Honk! Screeeeeeeeeee….”
Rufis Barlowe sighed as he pulled into the staff parking lot of Camelot Junior High at 7:10 a.m., an hour before school officially started.
This day was already going worse than he imagined.
His pants were drenched in the coffee he bought from Starbucks after his 4-year-old decided it was funny to hit it with his miniature lightsaber.
His eyes were embroidered with dark circles after the previous two restless nights spent preparing for the start of hybrid learning.
His car was littered with worksheets because in the hurry to leave the house, he forgot to fully zip his backpack. As a result, his backpack did him a “great” favor by throwing up its contents all over the backseat.
Not to mention that he was quite darn annoyed by the fact that a seagull had decided to do its business in the right smack middle of his windshield.
Despite all that, he took out of his phone, turned the camera onto self-view, adjusted his tie, and practiced his greetings and grins. The anticipation of meeting some of his students in person made him giddy.
No matter what happened, he was finally getting the opportunity to see his “little scholars,” as he called them, beyond the Zoom screen. That was all he needed to brighten his day tenfold.
