What Happened When I Tried to Live Without Technology for a Week: A Personal Experiment

It started as a challenge — a bet, really. My friends and I were out for coffee, each of us mindlessly scrolling through our phones while half-listening to each other, when someone said, “I bet none of us could survive a week without technology.”

I laughed. “I could do it,” I said confidently.

They weren’t convinced. “No phone, no laptop, no TV, no smart devices. You’d break by day two,” one friend smirked.

I accepted the challenge on the spot. One full week, no modern tech. If I made it, they owed me dinner. If I failed, I had to buy drinks for the group.

Simple, right? I had no idea what I was in for.

Day 1: The Withdrawal Begins

I woke up on the first day feeling weirdly energized. No emails to check, no morning social media scroll. Just me, my thoughts, and a quiet world.

That lasted about ten minutes.

The moment I sat down for breakfast, my hand instinctively reached for my phone. But, of course, it wasn’t there. I felt restless, like I had forgotten something important.
