What Happened When I Went Undercover As a Girl on Bumble: A Personal Experiment

As a man in my mid-30s who’s spent plenty of time swiping through dating apps, I’ve always wondered what it would be like on the other side of things. So, for a bit of fun (and admittedly, some boredom), I decided to conduct a little experiment. My method? Going undercover as a woman on Bumble using a friend’s profile.

I was inspired from this story here

I wasn’t just doing this out of curiosity, but to understand firsthand how different the experience could be. What I learned? Well, let’s just say it was eye-opening.

1. A Flood of Attention (And It Was Overwhelming)

As a guy, you often find yourself swiping through profiles, hoping for even a fraction of interest. Maybe you get a match here and there, but it’s rarely ever a flood. But when I set up my friend’s profile as a woman, something completely different happened.

Within hours, my inbox was flooded. I had more matches than I could count, and each one was accompanied by enthusiastic messages, compliments, and even unsolicited “hey” texts. It wasn’t even about my photos or bio. Just being a woman in this space meant that men were immediately drawn in.
