What Happens If Canada Refuses to Supply Toilet Paper to the United States?
52% of toilet paper exported by Americans is produced in Canada. What if Canadians declined to supply it?
The news is full of articles and clips about Donald Trump waging a trade war against Canada, Mexico, and China, and those countries are responding similarly. Canada didn’t just tariff American alcohol in response to America’s tariffs; it completely removed all US-made alcohol from the shelves. You may not know this, but we Canadians drink quite a lot. We aren’t necessarily obsessed with booze, but having a beer or wine here and there is a regular thing for us.
People may not fully understand how tariffs work or what may happen in a trade war. Once a country feels threatened, the gloves may come off. Our temporary Prime Minister, Mark Carney, seems to have the patience to be diplomatic for now. However, that doesn’t mean he will remain as such for long. If Trump persists, new measures might be deployed. One of those measures may or may not be the toilet paper leverage.
This is just my opinion, not Canada’s official or unofficial stance. But did you know that 52% of all the toilet paper exported to the United States is produced in Canada? Yes. Yes, we are the ones who supply it to the south…
