What Happens When We Walk Every Day
More than just steps…
I’ve always been a fan of walking. But when I started walking every day, a change happened to me. It was unexpected, it was subtle, but it’s profound.
I’m not a doctor or a licensed personal trainer. I’m just a woman who has walked 10,000 steps a day on average for the last four months.
What kind of walking are we talking about? That’s important to define because I’m not talking about the kind of walking we do at the grocery store- pushing the cart, stopping, pulling something off the shelf, putting it in the cart and moving on to the next item.
I’m not talking about the walking we do from our house to the car or as we’re moving from room to room in our house as we’re doing chores. Most of us do 4,000 steps a day with this activity alone.
While that’s beneficial, that’s not the kind of walking I’m talking about. I’m talking about walking that has some intensity. The experts say that if we’re moving at about 3–4 miles per hour, then we are doing cardio exercise.
Walking like that has produced an unexpected change for me.
You might be wondering ‘why would I want to walk for exercise, what’s the point of that?’
