About Mount Vernon:
Mount Vernon is the county seat of Skagit County, Washington, United States.
It is the former plantation estate and burial location of George Washington, the American Revolutionary War general, the first President of the United States, his wife Martha, and twenty other Washington family members.
Mount Vernon is an American landmark. The estate is on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is located south of Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, Virginia.
The Washington family acquired the land in 1674.
In 1734 the family’s mansion was built of wood in a Palladian style by George Washington’s father. It remained the President’s home till his death in 1799 at age 67 from a throat infection.
