What is God-realization And Nirvana? Do Fake Men and Women Claim Enlightenment to Entice Followers?
There is a full Chapter on this question in my book ‘Want to Know God: For Young and Old.’ — I give below a sample page as excerpts from my book.
In today’s world, the real meaning of the word Enlightenment, Nirvana or Brahma-nirvana has been lost to the world.
It is understood in a lighter vein without knowing its true significance. In the modern times the artificial american diamonds glitter more than the real diamonds.
The word ‘Nirvana’ has become popular these days to get an instant ticket to fame and self publicity.
People sell soaps, shampoos, incense sticks and designer clothes in the brand name of Nirvana. — Restaurants and boutique shops are given the fancy name of ‘Nirvana.’
Everything seems to be having commercial implications, and genuine seekers of Nirvana or God-realization are almost non-existent. A drowning man clings to a straw and it is true with the worldly people.
Many of the so-called bogus Gurus these days may claim to give instant ‘enlightenment’ to the deluded men and women by giving a ‘mantra’ to extract money and to gain followers.
Any claim of instant enlightenment by anyone is false and misleading. — Enlightenment is not like an instant tea or coffee, but it is following a lifelong spiritual sadhana on the righteous path without any attachment.
Are religion and spirituality two different things? Religion is like a structure that should support spirituality. But instead religious superstitions and rituals have become the substitutes for spirituality itself.
In Buddhism, Nirvana is the highest attainment, and it is a state of mind where there is no further suffering as hatred, greed, lust, anger and desires have been fully eradicated.
The word ‘Self-realization’ is synonymous to mean Moksha, Nirvana, liberation, Muktah and ‘God-realization.’
Enlightenment or Nirvana is a state of a perfect bliss and freedom from all worries; a state of contentment and joy within. It is liberation from further cycles of birth and death.
Self-realization is the end of all suffering and there is no further desire for wealth, sex, fame and power. It is the highest achievement and nothing more remains to be attained after Self-realization.
The saints and sages down the ages realized that life is a struggle and it encompasses suffering from childhood to old age and finally death. The struggle of life never ends, and it is a constant phenomenon. What is the way out of this misery?
Bhagavad Gita describes the way to come out of the worldly misery to attain everlasting bliss!
“Actions are a cause of bondage in this world except for those actions which are performed as dedication to God in a spirit of Yajna sacrifice. Therefore O Kaunteya Arjuna! You earnestly perform actions without any attachment for the sake of sacrifice alone, to the Supreme Spirit.” (Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3 verse 9)
“With sins wiped away, doubts and dualities removed by the knowledge of Self-soul; the self controlled men and women, delighting in the welfare of all beings, attain the state of Brahman (Nirvana).” ( Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 5 verse 25)
