What is StarLink broadband?
SpaceX is leveraging its experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy the world’s most advanced broadband internet system.
Starlink broadband is a satellite constellation being constructed by SpaceX to provide satellite internet access. The constellation will consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), working in combination with ground transceivers.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has a Starlink terminal at his house and he used it to send a tweet early on Oct 22, 2019 “Sending this tweet through space via Starlink satellite,” he tweeted to his 29 million followers. ”Whoa, it worked!!”.
Internet Speed
SpaceX’s satellite internet system is designed to offer blazing fast speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. Within the next few years, Starlink expects to offer satellite internet to the entire planet, including remote locations where internet isn’t currently available.
Cost
Musk previously said the cost of user terminals will be $100–$300 — and we have reason to believe Starlink satellite internet will cost somewhere around $80 a month.
