What Is Your Superpower, and How Would You Like to Use It?
Imagine the transformation in your journey if you fully embraced your unique gift.
Read on my website / Reading time 5 min.
Have you ever realized you possess a unique gift that is ultimately connected with your business or research dot? It’s something inherently yours, always within you, unimaginable to live without, yet often overlooked as a gift. Without nurturing it, this gift remains dormant, causing you to miss out on profound inspiration. Life lacks vitality without inspiration.
Reflect on this — how might your journey change if you truly embraced and developed your unique gift?
I will share my story with you today, encouraging you to reflect and engage in introspective exploration.
It took me years to grasp, yet the final realization was simple.
It was a collective guided meditation where the trainer used a specific story to drive individual experience.
Guided meditation is a form of imagination work where we are fully connected with our feelings and emotions.
It is called “managed” because this work involves a ready-made script. This one was aimed at finding gifts that we all have.
The group spent several days preparing, so everyone was fascinated by what was coming next, looking forward to a deep connection with themselves and meaningful insights.
For a long time, I tried to understand the meaning of my gifts.
I considered myself useless as a child since I had no spark inside.
Whenever I have done psychological or spiritual work on my gifts, it usually ends in nothing.
I’m sure it didn’t matter much, but I couldn’t figure it out.
Any work, be it hypnosis, most profound meditations, or conscious affirmations about my giftedness, was in vain.
I opened thousands of imaginary gift boxes, entered hundreds of doors, and imagined dozens of versions of my best self, but nothing worked.
Starting meditation on this day, I was so excited because it was a long time ago since I had asked a question pertaining to gifts and did a tremendous amount of preparatory work.
I was ready to hear something significant and prepared especially for me!
Lying in deep relaxation, bathed in sensations and music, I walked along an imaginary path, stepping along a mountain lake.
The voice said that there was another house, and someone was waiting for my visit.
Step by step, I found myself in front of a wooden house and, entering it, saw an ancient sage.
He sat on the bench and got up as soon as I entered.
He was like Merlin with a long beard, gray linen dress, skinny and tall.
I looked into his warm blue eyes and said I am such a tired father; I have come a long way looking for the gift of my life.
They said you have something for me.
Yes, he said, give me your hand.
A fresh, fragrant, green, and large apple touched my hand.
He gave it to me and so deliberately closed my arms.
Take it, dear; what else can I give to someone who already knows everything.
He turned, and so did I because the bell was calling us back. The meditation ended, and I returned to the room where everyone shared feelings and visions full of sparks and gifts of abilities, possibilities, and opportunities. My hand was holding an apple.
We tend to believe our gift will be revealed someday if we persist.
We work so hard in the absolute blindness of what is within us, what already exists and always has been.
We have often been told that we’re not good enough yet and must work to become someone with a gift.
No one said that our job is to look inside ourselves and appreciate what is already there.
Before my mind started chattering again about uselessness and mundanity, I took another look at my hand.
The plain green apple was so brightly fresh that I could physically taste the sweetness of its juice on my tongue.
He had said, “Who already knows everything.”
Did I forget about it?
I was ashamed, feeling tears in my eyes.
And the next very second, very suddenly, my whole life, the feeling of pain, the ability to feel thoughts, and the physical taste of an apple all clicked into place: sensitivity!
My gift is sensitivity!
I’ve tried every door except the one that was wide open for me.
I knew I was sensitive, but I had no idea it was my gift!
I was born with it, which has been with me all my life.
It individualizes me; it was my worst enemy the other day and became my best friend the next.
The best thing I did to it was keep running away from it.
It was an enlightening moment.
Later, I learned that sensitivity is a degree of our connection to the world, while empathy represents its social aspect.
Sensitivity allows for emotional engagement, demonstrating our ability to connect deeply with people or things and show emotional attachments, too.
Thus, depending on the individual’s psychological safety level, it serves both possibilities and limitations.
However, this uniqueness sets us apart from AI.
Though we can develop emotional intelligence extensively, so can AI.
To explore this in more depth, check out my previous article, “Who we are awaiting digital species?”
While communication skills and cognitive empathy are shared traits, emotional empathy remains uniquely human, at least for now.
To fully access it, we must feel and nurture this ability deeply.
I chronicled my eight-year journey of discovering sensitivity in a book, exploring the possibilities it opens for us.
Additionally, I embarked on a Ph.D. journey in emotional engagement focusing on sustainable solutions for impulsive buying behavior, a significant factor in excessive purchases during crises when resource constraints drive lifestyle changes.
This might seem huge, but the realization of this journey began with a simple story I shared with you today.
Never give up on the search within. Start now with a simple question: What is your superpower, and how would you like to use it?
