What to do Instead of Treating Goals like Finish Lines
Goals can be nefarious
Everything, be it love, career, or fitness, is a pursuit. There are no destinations. There is only one point B and most of us are terrified of it, and all of us wonder what happens thereafter.
You will not arrive at your goal’s end and feel perpetually satisfied and content. You will not make it because your destination is made up, it doesn’t exist.
You may have a finish line, and that’s great. But don’t get lost staring at the illusion of the greener grass on the other side. That’s a mirage.
The end of your destination may come, but guess what? It’s shrouded in fog, it’s dark; and if you’re not careful, there’s no one at the end to celebrate with you.
Sobering? Absolutely.
Beautiful? Wildly.
This reality doesn’t mean that we are meant to sit idly and allow our goals to pass us by, but it does mean that perhaps the idea of “goals” needs to be reframed.
It’s time to stop treating our goals like finish lines. It’s time to stop believing that we will be happy “once this, but not that …”
