In recent years, we have seen a rise in the body positivity movement, with people all over social media flaunting their curves, scars, and all the things they were once so insecure about. And I am so here for it.

We shouldn’t feel insecure in our own skin, we are all unique human beings and we should embrace that, instead of trying to fit the mold of the unrealistic beauty standards set by celebrities and plastic influencers.

However, this movement has also bred ignorance. In an attempt to become an accepting and politically correct society we have allowed genuine health issues to fall to the wayside, and this is where the problem arises.

If someone were to remark upon the health issues of another individual it would now be seen as body shaming and insensitive.

Let’s not be so naïve, not everyone who is calling someone out for his or her appearance does it with good intent. There are some truly malicious people out there who do it with the intent to hurt someone else or to make themselves feel better. This IS in fact body shaming and is just downright bullying and is never ok.
