How To Have The Last Glorious Word
The silence is deafening
As a hardworking mother of eight children, my beloved mother overcame many obstacles during her long life. However, there was one challenge that so completely overwhelmed her that it ultimately led to her passing at the age of 84, the loss of her sight.
The problem was what is called macular degeneration, which in my mother’s case was due to high blood sugar. Thankfully, she still had some peripheral vision which allowed her to watch TV out of the corner of her eye. Sadly, she had to finally retire from her job as a cook in a residential home for the aged. But that was just the tip of the iceberg that was to come.
My mother’s biggest problem was four of my siblings, who decided to take every possible financial advantage they could. They actually robbed her blind of all of her life savings. Even one of their daughters got in on the act by stealing from Mum’s bank account with a cash card she stole. And that was only a half of the problem. The other half was the verbal abuse, demeaning humiliation and aggressive threats that two of her daughters dished out to her.
Those two monsters, both professional nurses, just wanted to scare my mother out of telling anybody about what they were up to. However, my mother did tell me what was up and I was absolutely furious. I so…
