Why Do Strangers Keep Adding You On Facebook?

With nearly 50 Facebook friend requests, what do you people want from me?

When I had Facebook and I was active on it properly at the age of 12, I used to get really freaked out what strangers would add me on Facebook. Put it down to the warnings we would consistently get at school about pedophiles posing as kids on Facebook or put it down to my paranoia and anxiety. Either way, it gets me anxious.

Just for the record, I don’t properly use Facebook now I’m 24, I just have an account so I can promote my writing and be engaged with the community. In fact, I deactivated it when I was 13 and never went back.

Currently, I have a profile picture of me and only about ten friends — who are my real-life friends — just to verify I am a real person.

My profile is naked. I have no photos, I haven’t posted all my qualifications, and where I went to school, there’s no evidence I play Crazy Taxi and Farmville.

Over time, other members of Medium community groups have been added me as a friend on Facebook. I don’t mind this at all, because they probably just want to connect or have a nose around my profile, of which they will find nothing interesting at all.
