Beyond the bullying Elon Musk might have experienced at school when he was a kid, keeping his kids in a secretive school is a master move many people may not realize now.

In 2014, Musk created a private secretive school for his five kids. The school has no website, no phone number, or any other means to find out information about it, named Ad Astra — “to the stars”.

The school is set up in a way that allows his kids and a few other selected kids to learn and develop according to each child’s capacity and potential, “making all the children go through the same grade at the same time, like an assembly line.”

For a very long time now, most educational systems in many parts of the world are designed to grade a student based on his performance on select subjects. There is no special regard to a student’s peculiar ability and aptitude.

Dissatisfied with that, in Musk’s private school, “there aren’t any grades” for the children. He believes “it makes more sense to cater the education to match their aptitudes and abilities.” And if a child does not like a particular class, he can stop attending the class.
