This year Joe Biden won the state of Georgia. A week before election day, he visited Warm Springs, GA. Seeing news footage of this, my mind immediately went back to my father who died from kidney cancer in late 2015. My father underwent cancer treatment at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) location near Atlanta in Newnan, GA. Over the course of 2 years, my father made several trips to CTCA and he visited Warm Springs, GA a few times. He enjoyed the CTCA sponsored day trips to Warm Springs, GA. This community is mostly known as the place where former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt went to ease his polio. Specifically, he basked in Warm Springs’ “buoyant spring waters.”

A Cancer Diagnosis Leads to Georgia

My father spent his final years living in Bristol, PA about 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. He was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer a few years after doctors removed one of his kidneys. He found a physician in Philadelphia but decided to get a second opinion. He looked at different options and then came across CTCA. CTCA has a facility located near Philadelphia but it did not accept his health insurance. However, the CTCA facility in Newnan, Georgia accepted his insurance.
