As a teenager, I would spend an ungodly amount of hours playing Bethesda games. In those virtual worlds, I would strive to master all skills, complete every pointless side quest, and become the most powerful force in either the wasteland of Fallout or the realm of Skyrim.

The gameplay followed a familiar pattern — starting off weak and struggling, then gaining power and almost achieving demi-god status. But I remember looking back at all my accomplishments within the game, and I couldn’t help but wonder:

“What if I had spent those hours building real-life skills instead?”

From that point forward I decided to do exactly that. And now, I want to share with you the steps to approach life like it’s a buggy, broken Bethesda videogame.

Hey You, You’re Finally Awake

The popular meme, “Hey you, you’re finally awake,” originated from the game Skyrim, where the main character awakens to discover they are in a bad situation and must find a way to overcome it. The odds seem heavily stacked against them, and it will take an earth-shattering event for those circumstances to change.
