Most recently Joe Rogan of Fear Factor, UFC fame, and podcast guru has decided to pack his bags and leave California for good. He opted to make the move to Texas and leave the Golden State behind. “I just want to go somewhere in the center of the country, somewhere it’s easier to travel to both places, and somewhere where you have a little bit more freedom,” said Rogan.

He is also quoted as stating “When you look at the traffic, when you look at the economic despair, when you look at the homelessness problem that’s accelerated radically over the last six, seven, ten years, I think there are too many people here”. Over population and extreme levels of poverty are concerns for everybody in California. According to the US Census Bureau California’s 18.2% poverty rate is second to only Washington DC’s.

On top of all of that California also has one of the highest tax burdens on it’s citizens in the nation. For the wealthy such as Rogan the state income tax rate could be as high as 13.3% annually. For him a move to Texas, which has no income tax, seems like an intelligent choice in his case.
