Why Not Cultivate Your Online Disagreements?
And they will blossom into something you might find useful.
A huge part of what I love about Medium is disagreeing with intelligent people up and down the length of the platform. There’s always something to learn if you’re prepared to engage fully. I think there is nothing better in the universe than two intelligent people disagreeing. That’s married with counter-fact there’s nothing worse than two idiots doing the same thing.
I also enjoy disagreeing with idiots but for different reasons.
My definition of an idiot has no relation to individual intelligence — it’s linked to how hard and fast you come into an argument you’re under-prepared to debate. Rocking in like a WWE wrestler with entrance music and throwing syntax around like a spangly costume will do you zero favours on most of my articles.
My readership includes some of the sharpest minds on Medium and you will get butt-hurt in the ensuing chaos if you spill someone’s pint.
It’s brutal out there. I love it. I’m here for it.
Some of the best things I’ve read on Medium are in the comments section. This is often where the most insight is to be found and where some of my more controversial opinions are tempered in the crucible of public discussion.
