What is the significance of the number eleven?

Remembrance Day is November 11. That’s the day we pause to remember our fallen. It was chosen by U.S. President Wilson in 1919, the year after the end of World War I.

“The Allied powers signed a ceasefire agreement with Germany at Rethondes, France, at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 1918, bringing the war now known as World War I to a close.” Library of Congress

It makes me wonder, did they pause on that day, waiting until the clock ticked over to 11:00 a.m., or was it a creative decision made by those reporting this occasion?

A moment in time, with great importance, was treated with so much reverence then. Now we measure time in seconds as tweets and posts flash by, shortening our days.

That moment was one hundred and one years ago…. we still remember.

A Remembrance Day in the past

It was 11:11 and we were in the air, somewhere between Calgary and Vegas, with a time zone change…
