You know how, as a kid, certain friends were just really wonderful to create imaginary worlds with?

You’d be riding the same wave of ideas and suddenly the bunk bed pirate ship set sail in your joint imaginations… All systems go — protecting each other from the shark-infested waters of the bedroom carpet!

That’s what it’s like to find great people to write with as an adult.

You take your own imagination, and you multiply it by the power of shared play.

This year I’ve opened myself up to co-creating with other writers, and I wanted to share with you why it’s generated a sea change in my personal writing.

For years, I’ve felt torn between a burning desire to express my deepest truths as a writer and an excruciating fear of being overexposed. This paradox can lead to paralysis. Wonderful ideas never make it through the embarrassment filter. Since writing collaboratively, this has changed.

Hopefully, reading this will convince you to invite more collaboration into your own writing life and enjoy the benefits too.
