Will Virginia become the next Texas?

After an exhausting election, republican Glenn Youngkin looks to be the new governor of Virginia, much to my disappointment and concern.

I’m already preparing for him to introduce a Texas-style abortion mandate once he takes office. Other than losing my bodily autonomy as a woman, he has been vehemently against CRT, also known as “Critical Race Theory”.

It’s unfathomable to imagine having a governor who is against teaching history as it occurred. Without the whitewashing and sugar coating. It reveals and discusses the incredibly obvious systemic racial inequalities that are embedded in almost every facet of the American institution. It’s about learning the truth, as much as racists don’t want you to hear it.

I knew this was coming; that the conservatives who usually don’t bother to vote would come out in droves, especially after their hatred for Northam and his mask mandates. I’ve never understood why they enjoy shooting off their own feet, just to end up in the same trench as those on the opposite political spectrum. It’s like a game of “who can suffer the most just to afford to be alive”, except they throw their children and grandchildren into that same viper’s nest. Without a second thought.

The United States is barely a “first world country”, and with people like Youngkin in positions of power, it will help the US remain decades behind other OECD countries. We do not have a high quality of life here, nor the best education or healthcare. We do not rank globally as “number one” because Americans refuse to demand that the government invest their taxes back into THEM, instead of a bloated, unnecessary military.

The older generations are ensuring that their children and grandchildren have stagnant wages, outrageous high housing prices, no autonomy over their own bodies and medical options, and will never have consistent access to healthcare. They proudly label this as “American Pride”.

It’s all complete hogwash and American Exceptionalism is nothing but poison in the well.
