A Poem: Lust, Love, Longing

Sometimes
You don’t know that there is a caress in your voice
And a smile in your words
That everything you say and
everything you do
Makes someone break out in goosebumps
And that tingling your very presence creates
Cannot be defined in words or thoughts
And that the feelings that course through you
Talk only in your blood
And your bones
And the marrow that runs through them
And that when your toes curl in anticipation
Of you know not what
Because what abrades the veins on your skin
is not something that has a name
And that little hollow emptiness
in the pit of your stomach
That becomes a giant hollow that
you can feel growing pore by pleasantly painful pore
So much so that you have to
put both palms against it
So that that yawning gulf doesn’t swallow you whole
But it doesn’t help
it doesn’t help
And you go tumbling into the abyss
Love from lust, lust to love
Either?
Neither?
And I, who know so many words
Can’t find one, not one

To describe this.
