Understanding World Heritage Day
World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, was first proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982. The proposal was later approved by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1983, and since then, the day has been celebrated every year on April 18th.
The primary aim of World Heritage Day is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting cultural and natural heritage sites around the world.
